Welsh Power Wins Wexford Synchronous Condenser Project
Welsh Power is delighted to be partnering with Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners to deliver the Wexford Synchronous Condenser Project – a proposed 963 MVA.s. facility due to start construction in 2027.

Awarded a contract in EirGrid’s Low Carbon Inertia Service (LCIS) Phase 1 tender, the plant will enable the electricity system in the Republic of Ireland to run on an increasing proportion of low carbon renewable energy.
Wexford will deliver the essential stability required by the system which has traditionally been provided by coal and gas fired power stations.
“Building on the success of our partnership with Quinbrook in Great Britain, where we are delivering seven stability projects, the team are excited to apply our experience to the Wexford project,” said CEO Mathew Tucker, “we look forward to starting construction in the near future”.
Quinbrook added in their press release: “Having successfully developed and managed construction for our existing synchronous condenser projects in the UK, Welsh Power brings deep technical expertise and a proven track record in delivering complex grid infrastructure.”
