CLEVELEYS SEA FESTIVAL WINS £500 WYRE POWER TREASURE CHEST

The Cleveleys Sea Festival, run by the Cleveleys Seafront Partnership, has been awarded the top grant of £500 in the Spring 2010 Wyre Power Community Chest.

Peter Trussler, Development Director of Wyre Power said: “We are very pleased to be able to support the Cleveleys Seafront Festival, an ambitious and exciting project for the whole community, and we wish them every success.”

“This is our new flagship event for all the community and visitors to Cleveleys, and this contribution will enable us to pay for professional performers and achieve a high quality schedule for the event. Already we have a fantastic line-up so with another two months to go it will be a day to remember.” said Jane Littlewood, Chair of the Partnership.

Other beneficiaries, each receiving £250 are:

  • Fylde Community Arts Projects: a local non profit group working in Wyre to promote local creativity, through competitions in poetry, art and photography.  The grant will go towards publishing costs for ‘Spiritworld’, a fantasy story for children about the mystery of the lost ship that is wrecked in Cleveleys Bay, that will be launched at the Sea Festival.
  • Thornton Action Group: to support the work of this group which was formed in 2001 with the objective of making Thornton a better place to live in, and which acts as a channel to keep residents informed, to discuss the issues affecting Thornton and to convey the views of residents to the appropriate bodies.
  • Thornton Community Association: to contribute towards running costs of a valuable local resource which creates a centre for local residents to get help with all kinds of problems.

Each quarter, Wyre Power, Welsh Power’s proposed 850MW gas-fired power station development at the Hillhouse International Business Park at Thornton Cleveleys, awards the Wyre Power Community Chest, a fund worth £5,000 a year that is designed to support people in FY5 and FY7, who are contributing to community or the environment and live or work locally.  The Award is determined by the Directors and staff of Wyre Power.

The Community Chest, open to everyone based in FY5 or FY7 postcodes, is awarded quarterly.  There is £1,250 available for distribution each quarter, with one award of £500, and three of £250, and anyone who wants to apply can do so online at www.wyrepower.com, following the link from the front page to the application form. The deadline for the next round of applications is Monday 14 June 2010.
