WYRE POWER COMMUNITY CHEST AWARDS £500 TO CLEVELEYS SEAFRONT PARTNERSHIP

Cleveleys Seafront Partnership, the voluntary organisation dedicated to the conservation, enhancement and community engagement with Cleveleys Seafront, has been awarded the top Wyre Power Community Chest award of £500, to support its 2009 programme of public participation and events which promote the seafront facilities to residents and tourists alike.

Peter Trussler, Development Director of Wyre Power said: “We were very impressed with the quality of applications to the community chest and Cleveleys Seafront Partnership are a worthy winner with their work to promote this valuable community asset.  I would like to thank the Wyre Strategic Partnership for their expertise in selecting the good causes the benefit.”

Each quarter, Wyre Power, Welsh Power’s proposed 850MW gas-fired power station development at the Hillhouse International Business Park at Thornton Cleveleys, awards the Wyre Power Community Chest – a fund worth £5,000 a year that is designed to support people in, who are contributing to community or the environment and live or work locally.  The Award is given on the recommendation of the Wyre Strategic partnership who kindly assess all the applications.

Other beneficiaries, each receiving £250 are:

• Fylde Community Arts Projects
  Fylde Community Arts Projects { Fylde CAP] are committed to promoting music art dance and all performing arts to enhance the Marsh Mill area, and encourage local people to develop their creative skills and talent. The award will contribute to the cost a performing rights certificate and public liability insurance to run the outdoor events at Marsh Mill.

• Fleetwood Senior Citizens Club Centre
  The award will be used to pay for a concrete ramp to encourage more people with disabilities to use the centre, and some paint to a create bright environment

• Fleetwood Extreme
  Fleetwood Extreme is group of volunteers who have come together to promote sport and healthy living in the Fleetwood area. The Wyre Community Chest donation will go towards a weekend event of sports in Fleetwood called ‘Fleetwood including canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and land-kiting.  The focus of the event will be to get people active and to help tackle social exclusion.

The Community Chest, open to everyone based in FY5 or FY7 postcodes, is awarded quarterly, in March, July, September, and December.  There is £1,250 available for distribution each quarter, with one award of £500, and three of £250, and anyone who wants to apply can do so online at www.wyrepower.com, following the link from the front page to the application form.
